Hawaii Senior Trip Peace Garden Project
In May 2006, VAAMP seniors partnered with Hawaiian youth in a shared service and art project at the Leahi Millennium Peace Garden in Diamond Head, Honolulu. The Leahi Peace Garden, established in the year 2000, was created by teens from around the globe to promote peace and cultural understanding and now stands as a symbol of solidarity and hope.
In addition to providing general garden maintenance students painted a mural titled “PLANT PEACE”. Hawaiian youth and VAAMP students rotated from garden maintenance to the mural project where they painted positive imagery representing peace and capturing the essence of ALOHA.
The collective project allowed VAAMP students to have a meaningful exchange with Hawaiian teens as well as make a positive and creative contribution to Hawaii.
Special thanks and appreciation to Ms. Asciutto, K-Dub and Ms. Marston - as well as all who participated in making this project a success!
